Motivation

Published by amandamarcenko at 1:16 am under Uncategorized

As the semester is nearing its end, I am finding myself wickedly unmotivated.  I am at the point that I would rather do anything but my homework and major assignments.  I did not really consider how ‘off track’ I had gotten with my school work until Sunday, when (instead of doing my homework) I met with a friend from high school for lunch.  His name is Peter and he is living in Toronto – he was in Assiniboia for the weekend, and in Regina for the Western Final (of course!)

Talking with Peter really made me realize where motivation and focus can get you.  You see, Peter always dreamed of being a Sportscaster- he loved playing, watching, and talking about sports.  After we graduated, Peter moved to Calgary for Broadcasting.  I don’t think I ever heard one bad thing about his experience in Calgary, he absolutely loved his course.  When he was preparing for his practicum, an internship spot came open at TSN and he applied.  I remember him telling me about how nervous he was, because working for TSN was always his dream.  And I learned on Sunday that he had someone else write on the application form because he didn’t want his messy writing to limit his chances.  Needless to say, he got the internship.  But it didn’t end there.  Peter continued to work at TSN following his internship, and has recently been given full time hours.  He is working ‘behind the scenes’ and I often get text messages telling me to watch the TSN Highlights, because he is the one who put the highlight pack together.

I find him quite inspiring actually.  He was never in the ‘popular crowd,’ but that did not hold him back- he knew what he wanted to do, and worked hard to get there.  He never talked badly about anyone else, even though he was often the brunt of people’s jokes.  He was, and still is, willing to listen to whatever problems his friends are having.

So, as I am sitting here unmotivated and uninspired, I find myself wishing I had the determination of Peter… the ability to work toward my goal with no distractions and without holding back.

Hopefully it comes my way soon!

    He’s found his Element.

Great story about passion and pursuit. Sometimes it seems that we get distracted on our journey. Don’t feel too badly about not always being motivated. I think part of the learning process is determining how and when to work. The how part is really important.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wow good for Peter. I always watch the TSN highlights…that’s pretty sweet that he puts some of those together. Well I’m starting to feel a little less motivated as well..but when I think to how much money University is and what I want to be in the future, I suddenly realize that I need to pick myself up and keep plugging away lol. Great post!

Wow, that’s a great story! I know exactly what you mean too. I am getting so overwhelmed with everything that I just want to stop. I know I can’t but to find motivation I try rewarding myself by completing a certain amount of stuff in a day and I try to get things done before the weekend so I can just relax! Sometimes it’s impossible but it’s always nice to even take a day off.

I never thought that Peter would be end up working for TSN. It’s kinda funny how everyone from town knows about his experiences, and I think it is great how succesful he has been. I wish I had more motivation, especially with the semester coming to an end!

Thank you for sharing that story. Now all that I need to do is get right on the ball and get my stuff together like Peter! Thank you again.
